Amanda, You do such good work. I know how hard you work and how you do everything you can to make our students look outwards instead of inwards. You are an inspiration. : )

What a FANTASTIC program and cause. We have something similar in our area, and I wasn't even aware of its existence until a few years ago. The fact that you have your students involved not only serves this group..it also builds awareness with your...

Students choose their outfits

Students volunteered to be models and then they went through the racks and racks of donated clothes to find their perfect outfit for the fashion parade:

Thankyou Letter from Fitted for Work

How nice it is to get a written 'thankyou' and this one certainly goes above and beyond! The writer linked her thanks to our school values - that's a project in itself!! This letter was to our Principal:

On behalf of Fitted for Work Mornington Peninsula I would like to extend my thanks to the Toorak College community for its work in supporting the launch of the FFW service in Frankston. Fitted for Work assists disadvantaged women by providing them with free clothing to attend job interviews,Continue

Fitted For Work

Fitted for work raises funds and collects second hand clothing to train women in work and interview skills and fit them out in work attire so they can attend a job interview. It is a fantastic cause and my students got behind it in a big way. This is the script from the launch night for their new Frankston store:

Year 9s March and 'Sleep' Over against child slavery

Toorak College Year 9's organised a march into our local village and slept over at the school to raise awareness and funds for the fight against child slavery - Jenny and Linda have posted more details about these events. I was delighted to be a part of such a motivated, enthusiastic and incredibly well organised group of young women as they engaged in rowdy and meaningful collaborative action. I hope those just wanting a quiet lunch break in Mt Eliza felt the same...… Continue

Together we can...

A MASSIVE THANKYOU to our generous network of parents and businesses who are willing to put up their hand and help our students achieve their goals. Mr Robert Kusters, of Marand Precision Engineering, saw my plea for assistance in sending our old style uniforms to the Bal Ashram Indian orphanage and he sprang into action. Mr Kusters put out the request to Mark Baker of CEVA Logistics, Mr Baker extended the request to Thai Airways and, between all of us, 15 boxes went off to India and should be t… Continue

Maybe I spoke too soon. Let me get in touch with the school and see if they could use them. I will get back to you in a few days. Please leave a quick comment if I forget. It is on my list.

Hi Amanda,

While I am appreciative of your gesture and kind donation, I am quite sure that the girls already have uniforms, and it seems strange to mix uniforms. That kind of defies the point huh? Also there are now 26 girls and will be more next year.

I hope that this doesn't deter you from participating with Daraja in the future.

Hello Mrs Ritter,
I was extremely pleased with the business stalls on Thursday. Although my group did not do as well as expected, we can not wait for next Thursday as it was a lot of fun!

The students have had some great ideas but we have struggled to get them off the ground. One that seems to be coming together is an initiative to raise awareness of the Zaidee Rainbow Foundation. This foundation encourages others to donate their o...

Hi Stephanie, I really like the rhyme scheme in this poem. It reminds me of some of the poetry of a man called William Butler Yeats. He wrote in the same style and his poems often dealt with weighty issues, as yours does. This poem makes me consi...

I completely and utterly agree with this. I see so many people who have so called "good" values and morals in life look at others as though they are the scum of the earth because they were born differently than them. It's not right that so many pe...

I really appreciate the subtle point you make about the ways in which we judge people based upon what they do or do not accomplish. People who don't finish school do lose quite a bit of status in our world, but I can think of so many people who ha...

Catherine---Wow. This is like a much needed slap in the face ; ) What a great example of how we can use poetry to make necessary statements and illuminate serious issues. Provocative.
