Introductions

Hi friends,

I have been meaning to introduce myself to this community since I joined over a week ago, and I apologize for taking so long to get to this. I was introduced to this ning by the wonderful Jenny Luca, the founder. We connected trough another member of this ning, Jabiz, who introduced us to each other because of our interest in helping people throughout the world.

I'm a high school history teacher in the SF Bay Area in California, US, and for the last year and a half, I have been on… Continue

Hi Mark,
This Friday myself and Wonderwoman- Ning member are introducing the Daraja Academy to our students. We've got the u-tube to show the children and will talk about Africa. This will start the children thinking about how we can help. Then we'll skype- Jenny Luca is mentoring us with that part. We're very keen to make a difference! I'll keep in contact. Cheers Nina

Hi Mark,
I was part of the audience at Toorak College when we Skyped you on March 6th. I love your enthusiasm and energy!! You really inspired the students who had lots of questions and are keen to participate in helping build bridges to the 'Daraja Academy'. We are looking at the global issue of child labour and education for all and have a special interest in girls' education, so 'Daraja Academy' is high up there. Toorak College also run a trip to India where they visit and support Bal Ashram, a school for boys who have been rescued from child labour, this group are about to build a school for girls, Balika Ashram, and we are looking at supporting this initiative as well. We are about to organise a working party of keen students to get started on their action plans. We we will keep you informed of our progress and hopefully the students will become part of this ning and it will progress from there. Look forward to more Skypes and communication. Regards, Linda

Hi Mark, Great to see your smiling face join us. Hopefully we will be able to find some connections and you will be able to post here about the great things your school is doing to support Daraja Academy. I'm so pleased you have decided to join the ning.

The students have had some great ideas but we have struggled to get them off the ground. One that seems to be coming together is an initiative to raise awareness of the Zaidee Rainbow Foundation. This foundation encourages others to donate their o...

Hi Stephanie, I really like the rhyme scheme in this poem. It reminds me of some of the poetry of a man called William Butler Yeats. He wrote in the same style and his poems often dealt with weighty issues, as yours does. This poem makes me consi...

I completely and utterly agree with this. I see so many people who have so called "good" values and morals in life look at others as though they are the scum of the earth because they were born differently than them. It's not right that so many pe...

I really appreciate the subtle point you make about the ways in which we judge people based upon what they do or do not accomplish. People who don't finish school do lose quite a bit of status in our world, but I can think of so many people who ha...

Catherine---Wow. This is like a much needed slap in the face ; ) What a great example of how we can use poetry to make necessary statements and illuminate serious issues. Provocative.
