Hey Rob,
Are you teaching Heart of Darkness and Things Fall Apart together this year for AP? If so, you might want to look at this TED talk (or have the kids look at it). It is about the dangers of "one story". http://www.ted.com/talks/chimamanda...
Hi Stephanie,
I really like the rhyme scheme in this poem. It reminds me of some of the poetry of a man called William Butler Yeats. He wrote in the same style and his poems often dealt with weighty issues, as yours does. This poem makes me consi...
I completely and utterly agree with this. I see so many people who have so called "good" values and morals in life look at others as though they are the scum of the earth because they were born differently than them. It's not right that so many pe...
Catherine---Wow. This is like a much needed slap in the face ; ) What a great example of how we can use poetry to make necessary statements and illuminate serious issues. Provocative.
Oh, Mrs. Leach, I love this poem. I have so felt this. I get so many customers at the pizzeria I work at who come in and share their intolerant beliefs. There was one a few weeks ago, who walked past an African American customer, and stated how he...
The salesman came in and began to chat, as they do
about the family that he missed and the town where he lived
and the blacks infiltrating his neighborhood and the Jews who were hiding the money from him
and he thought that I agreed, because of m...
Yes, read that one , I think ... the differences in culture fascinate me ... I think we take so much for granted in our culture, not realizing that differences exist. It makes me glad to be an American (especially on Veteran's Day!).....
Hi Catherine, Lovely to have you join us. Always great to have people who have connections with Angela. Rob's poetry group is attracting interest; looking forward to seeing your contributions.
Jenny. : )
Hello Catherine, welcome to WT2MAD! I think it's great that we're getting an influx of members who are connected to Angela. There are many wonderful initiatives underway, so I encourage you to explore the site and join the conversation. I'd be happy to help in any way possible.
Woohoo!! Catherine is here : )) I'm so excited to see so many familiar and fantastic faces here suddenly. Feel free to jump into a conversation or group or start one of your own! Let me know if you need any sort of support too.
Five devastating words: Just to be Cut Down
Trees are a magnificent, important and irreplaceable part of nature. They don't grow to be cut down, not in the wonderful wild forests we should protect but aren't. This poem has a real message, thank yo...
As I walked into the over crowded cafeteria I noticed that one of my good friends was sitting by herself. I knew that someone was sitting with her, but they were waiting in line for lunch. So instead of getting in the back of a long line right awa...
Today I made a difference by helping my dad with the new garage door opener he had to install. Together we turned a 4 hour job into a 2 hour job. I felt great after helping.
Mike, you are such an active member of this space and you and your students inspire me. I'm looking forward to seeing what you and your students can achieve.
I haven't blogged on this space for a while, and I certainly apologize for my lack of activity, but I've had an interesting start to my school year nonetheless. District-wide reorganization has resulted in me teaching in three different classrooms...

When Mr. Currin read this in class and said it was by a student named Steffanie, I so didn't piece it together. This is wonderful! I really thought it came from one of Mr. Currin's poetry books. I love the rhyme scheme and flow, but the meaning yo...
I have , in fact, dropped in multiple times to check out what the students are doing, thinking, writing, etc..... yes, I wholeheartedly agree that the quality of their work impresses me the most. I am proud of so many students who have taken the c...
