Ok, no reason why my 5&6 year olds can't contribute. I'll start the ball rolling at school and see what they come up with. I'm always amazed by there understanding and ability to create from their own perspective.

Socio-economic access to toys.
Prep Students are only limited by the limits put on them by others. Young children can do amazing things as long as they clearly understand what they have to do!
Our current Inquiry is Toy Story.
The Central Idea is:
Toys have changed over time due to technology.
The lines of inquiry that will define the scope of the inquiry into the central idea is:

5 and 6 Year Olds Discuss: What is a good leader and what do they do?
Today we had a discussion in my classroom: What is a good leader and what do they do?
I teach 5 & 6 year olds, and I’m always surprised by their answers. I always record their thoughts for reflection and revisiting. The following answers are written as said by my students.
A good leader is;
not bossy
and doesn’t have to be your friend
organisers the pencils
plays with everyone
is a good friend
doesn’t exclude
doesn’t give the answers
helps others to find out what they need to find out

Global Students, International Mindedness, What the ‘ning’ is that?

- It's not just about the garbage cans, that's for certain. I don't mind doing things anonymously. It's fun, really. But it sometimes seems...well...like it's not really making a difference in a world so dark. Basically, I think it comes down to me needing to put back on the blinders and carry on forward with my deeds regardless of my perception of my community.

It is fantastic to hear of your students interest in Daraja Academy and of their development through inquiry - what a wonderful collection of words/phrases.
At school today we had around 25 students attend a meeting at lunchtime to become part of the Global Girl Action Group, addressing the issue of ‘Child Slavery’ and ‘Education for all’ with the focus on girls education and the two girls schools, ‘Balika Ashram’ in India and ‘Daraja’ in Kenya.
The girls suggested raising money and awareness through a 'school sleepover'. This was taken on very enthusiastically by the rest of the girls so we are hoping we will be able to run with this event. The date for the sleepover would be Friday 22nd May, 2009. Year 9 will organise the event, however, other levels can also get involved (hopefully other schools as well) We still need to look at the logistics of such an event. The risk assessment would be huge and would need to detail all aspects of the evening. The students aim to raise money through sponsorship and having stalls on the evening, especially with parent involvement. We are also hoping to incorporate some actiities such as dancing and inviting the African girl dancers from St John's etc etc. It is all just starting and hopefully we can get it underway before the holidays, so that the event on the 23rd is successful.

Today I made a difference by helping my dad with the new garage door opener he had to install. Together we turned a 4 hour job into a 2 hour job. I felt great after helping.
