That's a great idea, Kristin--and it's a manageable one that others could replicate without getting too overwhelmed. Thanks for sharing it here where others can be inspired by it! Going to be visiting you guys on your next Superintendent's day...m...
Good media day. If you'd like to see how things went for us with World Teachers' Day in Manitoba, see my blog post "Media Hits on World Teachers' Day" on the Beyond 3Rs ning.
A great press release Ramon. I hope it gets the attention it deserves. I love this line; "But teachers talk about peace on their stage everyday in their classrooms”
So true. : )
Here's the release on World Teachers' Day 2009 from The Manitoba Teachers' Society.

Right, Jenny. I like your "piece of peace" phrase, Kristen. And certainly courage and perseverance are essential these days. I made contact with the most wonderful local peace educator this morning. She's already cleared her media availability wit...
Thanks for sharing ... it is interesting that my students and I had a conversation just this past week about school and the "real world" ... I shared with them that it is my goal to help them discover the best ways for them to learn and we have fo...
Thanks Raman, that's good to know and gives me a bit more time to prepare. Jenny Luca, one of our hosts here, won the World Teacher Award last year. It was awarded from the Victorian Institute of Education - the organisation which registers teache...
If you google Australian World Teachers' Day you'll find a host of interesting links. Internationally, WTD is celebrated on Oct. 5 every year--except for Australians who celebrate it on October 30. Here's a link with some cool activities and conte...
Thanks for drawing attention to this Raman. I've got some ideas spinning in my head to do something "special" for my colleagues and friends on Oct. 5th. Actually, the more I think about it, I think it's worth the effort to make these people feel a...
Thanks for highlighting the date Ramon. It's the first day back for term 4 for teachers in Victoria. I'll have to put some thought into how we can celebrate the day at my school. I agree with Nina's comments. Most teachers I know work above and be...
I have seen the e-card and what a great idea. It is important recognise the work that teachers do, not just in the classroom, but in the community. Unfortunately, the work of teachers isn't always valued as it should be. I have seen teachers run i...
Wow, I checked out your links Angela. Very impressive. I especially liked the testimonials from camp. I'll do a bit of digging and see if there's anyone doing something similar here. But what you've got going sounds pretty special.
Thanks, Nina. Anything to raise teachers' awareness of the day would be great. Did you notice the "Send your teacher an e-card" button on the Education International site?
There's Teacher Appreciation Week and Education Week, depending on where you live. But are you familiar with World Teachers' Day? It rolls around every October 5, so this year it falls on a Monday.
The global theme this year is "Building the Future." But in Canada, for the past few years we've been generating our own theme. This year it's "Peace. Live it. Teach it" and you can download our poster at the… Continue

Hey, folks. I found out about this ning through John Evans who posted the information on www.beyond3rs.ning.com. Thought I'd introduce myself briefly as I join you.
The projects sound like exactly the kind of thing that would be inspirational to our members Ramon. If you know of teachers and students who would be willing to join and share what it is they are doing we would love to see them here. The exchange program sounds like it would be an experience that really makes people connect with the cause. A teacher at my school has an association with the Tabitha Foundation. It sounds similar to what it is you are talking about. I'm sure John will be thrilled to know his efforts have led to you joining us. I'm looking forward toconnections being made.
Jenny : )
Hi Raman, Welcome to Working together 2 make a difference. Can you let us know a little more about you and what you might be thinking of doing to make a difference. Are you a teacher? Did you find out about this site from John Evans or Mike Poluk? There are some great ideas to be found here and opportunities for collaboration.
Jenny : )
Fill up your flask, and fill it up fast.
You think you can drink it all away.
I know you feel it's not a big deal,
but i will take this to my grave,
the distance grew further, as your heart froze cold,

Hi Daniel, I think you've learned a thing or two by doing the 25 days to make a difference program. It's a great lesson to learn at your age. Thank you for sharing your reflections with us.
This is a post that was submitted by Daniel, one of my grade 5 students. The students have been challenged to write about their efforts to do at least one good deed per day, but Daniel took it a step farther and reflected on why we're doing this i...
If you, your family, or your class is participating in fundraising activities, share what you are up to here. This group is for those who are seeking inspiration and ideas that make fundraising fun and rewarding!
As the students are preparing their reflections and writing responses to Three Cups of Tea, I have found it to be very interesting the connections they have made. The text to world, text to self and text to text connections are unique and personal...
Congratulations Erik!
The things you chose to do made a huge difference for the people in your life and probably put a smile on their faces and in their hearts!
What would happen if everybody (in the whole world) decided to do something thoughtful...
Stranger's Shoes
Take me in the month of May to the meadow
Where the grass is cool and green,
The prettiest picture I've ever seen
And that cold concrete can't scratch my feet
and I can lay and pray
and maybe find some sweet relief
You know I'v...
