Working together 2 make a difference

Educators working collaboratively

Anyone from Alden who made it on here (I believe Mrs. Regdos, Miss Weisbeck, Mrs. MC, Mrs.Nelson):

Hi! This is Sarah. I just wanted to make sure you made it on here. I tried to send you an email, but it didn't work. Well, now that you know what this sponsorship is, I have an idea. Last year for my religion, my class went to the Alden Meals on Wheels and made Easter paper bags for their meals. Maybe, if I had the chance to go to the headquarters (old Geofannos), we could make Christmas cards to share the holiday cheer/ help the community. Now, this might not work, but if it did, I'd need four things: a room to work in one day after school, how many recipients there are, construction paper (or computer paper, but I think construction paper's better), and markers. I believe there would be around a hundred to make, but probably less. We'd need to make an announcement, too, something like, "Come join in holiday spirit in room ____ on _______ the _____. Bring friends and have fun making holiday cards for Meals on Wheels!" I don't think we'd need a sign-up sheet, but then again, I'm not a teacher, and I'm not even sure if it's a good idea! And, probably to make more people come, (=D) I could make some cookies or something! So, let me know if you have any ideas, too!

~Sarah

P.S. My website is sarahirene.wordpress.com, if you would like to see more of what I do!

P.P.S. Mrs. Stockman might also have some tips/ ideas for us if we friend her!

Thanks again for joining/ helping!

Thank you, Mrs. MC! (Which is why I added teachers like you on here!) That's a lovely plan! I was thinking, we could probably do something for Thanksgiving, too, like a canned food drive. I know we did something like that in middle school. What do you think? As soon as the other teachers join, I can elaborate (and we can collaborate) more on this.

P.S. And thank you, Mrs. Stockman! Tell Laura I saw her blog post & I subscribed to her website. =D

Sarah - what about organizing a campaign where advisements made cards. We did that a few years ago for the soldiers in Iraq. I think that would be a creative way to get cards from all over the school. I know I could get kids in my advisement to participate ( and they are seniors!!!) You would definately get a great response....we could talk about how to phrase it and why we're doing this....

Sarah--I think this is a great idea, and if you do this after school sometime, Laura and I would even be happy to join you. Be sure to take some pictures and blog about what you do here so that others can see. Let us know how we can help you as you begin getting started here. You are a great kid, you know that?

Oops! You might need to type in http://sarahirene.wordpress.com in order for it to work! And, if you read this, Mrs. Stockman, do you think it's a good idea?

The students have had some great ideas but we have struggled to get them off the ground. One that seems to be coming together is an initiative to raise awareness of the Zaidee Rainbow Foundation. This foundation encourages others to donate their o...

Hi Stephanie, I really like the rhyme scheme in this poem. It reminds me of some of the poetry of a man called William Butler Yeats. He wrote in the same style and his poems often dealt with weighty issues, as yours does. This poem makes me consi...

I completely and utterly agree with this. I see so many people who have so called "good" values and morals in life look at others as though they are the scum of the earth because they were born differently than them. It's not right that so many pe...

I really appreciate the subtle point you make about the ways in which we judge people based upon what they do or do not accomplish. People who don't finish school do lose quite a bit of status in our world, but I can think of so many people who ha...

Catherine---Wow. This is like a much needed slap in the face ; ) What a great example of how we can use poetry to make necessary statements and illuminate serious issues. Provocative.

Oh, Mrs. Leach, I love this poem. I have so felt this. I get so many customers at the pizzeria I work at who come in and share their intolerant beliefs. There was one a few weeks ago, who walked past an African American customer, and stated how he...

I am not inside your head. I can't predict what you will say. I can't control your feelings, Even if I hope you feel that way. Today you tell me one story, And tomorrow you'll tell another. How do I know what to believe, Why should I even bother?...
